Overview

The Trilobite is the tentacled organism removed from Elizabeth Shaw in Prometheus after Holloway's pathogen exposure. Shaw uses the automated surgical unit to extract it alive, then leaves it contained while she continues through the collapsing expedition. It subsequently grows into a much larger animal. The nickname identifies a fictional creature and its production terminology; it does not make it an example of Earth's extinct trilobites.

When the Engineer attacks Shaw, she releases the organism, whose tentacles overpower him and enable an oral infection. The Deacon's later emergence connects their stories without showing that Trilobite and Deacon are simply two ages of one ordinary animal. Martin Hill's effects account describes how an articulated practical young creature and digital imagery supported the self-surgery sequence. The creature therefore has a specific transformation and narrative chain, while its normal habitat, independent breeding and longer lifespan remain unestablished by the film.

First appearances & development

The tentacled organism appears in Prometheus in 2012, first during Shaw's emergency extraction and later as the larger animal that attacks the Engineer. The film connects those appearances through rapid growth. The creature's nickname is retained for identification, while the effects interview provides a separate witness to how its young form was realised on screen.

Canon & continuity

Hill's direct production testimony describes the practical and digital young creature during the extraction scene. The independent Prometheus account supplies the later Engineer encounter. These sources establish two related appearances and a host-infection event; they do not provide a demonstrated breeding population. The bibliography identifies a film and a meaningful creator witness rather than inventing a second screen appearance.
