Overview
The Beast is an immense horned being imprisoned beneath Krop Tor, whose orbit near a black hole forms part of the prison's destructive safeguard. Its influence also operates through the possessed Toby Zed, separating the visible underground body from the agency encountered by the expedition. Its declarations invoke devil traditions, but those declarations alone do not prove every theological identity it claims.
The two-part story forces the Doctor and Rose to confront different parts of the threat: the prison and body below, and the host escaping with the other humans. That separation makes destroying one manifestation an incomplete response unless the other is also contained. This profile treats the Beast as the particular entity depicted in these episodes, not as a species of all horned monsters or a confirmed origin for every real-world account of Satan.
First appearances & development
The Impossible Planet and The Satan Pit (2006) depict the Beast on Krop Tor. The selected 2006 television treatment is the narrative baseline. The Satan Pit provides the later treatment named in the bibliography. Licensed audio and prose can develop their own emphases, which are not silently merged into these scenes.
Canon & continuity
BBC Studios' linked creature or episode material supports the depicted prison, possession and uncertain claimed identity. The bibliography identifies the actual writer and selected production. Claims made by characters and inferred histories are kept separate from events directly depicted; one official guide does not establish all versions of the organism.
