Overview
Skyrim's skeevers are aggressive rodents found in caves, ruins and the open countryside. A bite can transmit Ataxia, whose particular gameplay effect reduces lockpicking and pickpocketing ability. Bodies yield tails for alchemy; separately placed roasting carcasses yield charred hide. This distinction matters because finding a roast does not mean that the player can cook any freshly killed skeever through the same interaction. Hearthfire adds domestic exceptions, including cellar infestations and an adopted child's named pet, so hostility is not the only role assigned to the animal.
ESO's Notes on the Order Skeevera follows a student who considers small wildlife safer than trolls and giant insects. The student observes that skeevers carry disease but also feed larger predators, then attempts a capture and receives potentially infected bites. The journal makes the underestimated nest a story about failed fieldwork. Bolga's Guide to Island Beasts gives another local perspective: northern trade ships bring animals to Khenarthi's Roost, where skeevers burrow in sand and emerge with the tide. Her account of stringy stew and dangerous leaps is a huntswoman's advice, not an objective assurance that every skeever population has identical behaviour.
First appearances & development
The selected game chronology begins with Skyrim in 2011, then its 2012 Hearthfire domestic additions and ESO's in-world natural-history texts. Skeevera is the student's classification within the fictional setting, not a real biological order. Named pets remain individual exceptions within the rodent profile rather than additional creature types.
Canon & continuity
Skyrim's encounter reference and the full student journal and Bolga guide were read through UESP's public API. Disease effects and ingredient interactions are scoped to Skyrim; island movement and diet are attributed to Bolga. An unused transformation power listed in game data is excluded from available player abilities.
