Overview
Neptune is a weapon made by administering the T-Virus to a great white shark during research into marine compatibility. The publisher describes increased size, aggression and persistence, identifying it as FI-03. Its menace depends heavily on the surrounding water: a human moving near the tank is exposed to a predator that can deliver a fatal attack. The familiar shark outline remains recognizable, but the experimental transformation increases its scale and threat. Capcom’s king-of-the-sea comparison is descriptive enthusiasm, not evidence that Neptune possesses supernatural dominion over marine life.
In the original Resident Evil, the guardhouse tank contains a large specimen with two smaller sharks. The inspected guide recommends reaching the control room and draining the tank; the stranded animals then become vulnerable and may be left alone. The 2002 remake makes that apparent reversal less straightforward. After the Aqua Ring is drained, the largest shark still survives in a remaining pool beside a generator. Entering that water is dangerous, and the guide identifies pushing the generator into the pool as the solution. The same experiment thus supports two materially different encounters: removing the habitat neutralizes the original group, while the remake’s surviving animal requires a further environmental action.
First appearances & development
Neptune appears in Resident Evil (1996) and returns in the 2002 remake. Both portray an engineered shark experiment, but the drained-tank outcomes differ. The profile groups those versions to preserve their comparison; the remake’s generator sequence is not retroactively assigned to the original game.
Canon & continuity
Capcom’s creature dossier establishes the shark basis and enhanced attributes. Separately inspected original and remake records identify the three-shark arrangement, draining procedure and surviving remake specimen. These witnesses support a specific encounter comparison rather than a universal rule that every Neptune either dies or survives when stranded.
