Overview

Lurker comes from early T-Virus compatibility testing on frogs. Capcom identifies aggression without the brain development necessary for a controllable weapon, making the result a failed research project. Its watery environment and frog outline remain recognizable, but its long tongue can catch a human-sized target for swallowing. The dossier compares the tongue with a Licker’s while emphasizing the different outcome: the Lurker does not merely lash or stab at the victim. A successful swallowing attack can kill outright.

The Zero guide records badly reduced eyes and ears alongside improved prey sensing, a strong tongue and a digestive system capable of rapidly killing swallowed victims. Its deliberately extravagant sensory comparison does not establish literal supernatural powers. Encounters occur around the treatment plant’s water areas, with possible leaps from the maintenance zone, dumping area, walkway and dam. The appearance is not guaranteed at every pass, so these locations are encounter possibilities rather than fixed population data. The publisher recommends preparing the companion to intervene, making this amphibian a threat shaped by Zero’s partnered play as well as its immediate reach.

First appearances & development

Resident Evil Zero (2002) presents the frog-based Lurker as a rejected weapon. Capcom relates its control problems to amphibian compatibility and compares the later Hunter gamma project, but that is a research conclusion within the fiction. It does not establish a real biological law concerning all amphibians or all viruses.

Canon & continuity

The individual official dossier supplies the frog basis, control failure and swallowing threat. The separately inspected Zero guide adds reduced sensory organs, developed tongue and conditional treatment-plant placements. Its supernatural-sounding description of sensing is treated as emphasis, while the concrete prey detection and weapon limitations remain part of the account.
