Overview
The Hunter’s scale-like skin and extended claws accompany a deliberately designed biological weapon. Capcom identifies its fictional production as a T-Virus-assisted combination of reptilian and other DNA with a fertilized human ovum. This separates the project from an ordinary zombie created by unintended human infection. Strength and agility allow it to chase an assigned target, and its leaping power is a prominent part of the threat. The original mansion’s returning player meets a new kind of opponent after the Guardhouse section: familiar corridors become dangerous again because the pursuer no longer behaves like the slower enemies encountered earlier.
The original-game specialist guide identifies claws on all four limbs and distinguishes a low swipe from a jumping slash, with a close attack capable of decapitation. It locates the first pursuit after the Plant 42 encounter, then lists Hunters occupying a number of previously travelled rooms. These details explain its role as an escalation in an already explored space rather than as a freely wandering natural animal. Capcom’s wider encyclopedia groups α, β and γ models, each with different characteristics. They are programme variants in this profile, not several entries padded out of one label. Specific attack patterns, the frog-like visual impression in the original guide, and the original human-reptile design should not be assumed to explain every later Hunter model identically.
First appearances & development
Resident Evil (1996) supplies the original selected Hunter and its mansion introduction. The 2002 remake provides another released treatment named by the specialist guide, while Capcom’s encyclopedia records the wider α, β and γ programme. This bounded entry does not newly survey every variant’s production history or present later models as identical anatomy.
Canon & continuity
The publisher encyclopedia directly identifies deliberate engineering and contrasts it with unintended zombification. The official retrospective confirms the first game’s leaping, clawed human-lizard form. The original-game guide independently supplies attack distinctions and mansion locations; its tactics are version-specific, and its visual analogy does not constitute a creator’s confirmed real-animal design testimony.
