Overview
Deisy Candelario de Reyes's 2017 account, published by Carlos Felipe Osegueda Osegueda, follows a family watchman leaving his midnight shift. Near the priest's residence he sees an unusually tall man, apparently walking on stilts. When he changes his route toward Las Mercedes, the figure intercepts him again. A further attempt toward Candelaria fails in the same way. The watchman finally returns to his guard post and stays until morning, identifying the obstructing presence as the Justo Juez de la Noche.
This local episode emphasizes movement, blocked streets and an interrupted homeward journey. Its teller passes on her grandmother's account rather than reporting her own encounter. A 2022 Salvadoran Ministry of Culture report records a different setting: performances of the Justo Juez, Siguanaba and Cipitío circulating through museum galleries during MUNA de Noche. That appearance documents public reception without fixing the older apparition's body or story.
Origins & earliest records
The inspected family witness was recorded in 2017 and printed in Osegueda Osegueda's 2018 ethnography of Santa María Ostuma. Its grandmother-to-grandchild transmission reaches further back without supplying a date. Museum performance in 2022 is a later cultural presentation. Neither record establishes the first oral account or a proven colonial origin.
Records & interpretation
The university's indexed printed p. 137 supplies the named narrator, family transmission and complete street-blocking sequence. Full PDF access failed, so the adjoining second testimony is not reconstructed from its opening. The cultural-ministry report separately verifies a museum performance, not an eyewitness encounter. Unverified headlessness and prescribed supernatural countermeasures are omitted.
