Overview

The Iron Giant is a recurring Final Fantasy monster represented in many games as a huge armored figure carrying an oversized sword. Final Fantasy II provides an early appearance, while later titles give the design new proportions and attack patterns. Its silhouette emphasizes weight, reach and the danger of a physical blow rather than the compact elemental magic associated with many smaller enemies.

Final Fantasy X places Iron Giants among Spira's fiends, where their armor and sweeping strikes form part of a recognizable enemy family. Other games may explain similar figures as machines or use translated names such as Iron Man; these explanations should remain attached to the relevant title. The optional Iron Giant added to the 3D remake of Final Fantasy III is also absent from that game's original 1990 release. This profile is franchise-specific and unrelated to the giant in Ted Hughes's novel.
