Overview
Ice wraiths are serpentine magical beings associated with snowy mountains and northern cold regions. Their pale, crystalline bodies blend with their surroundings, while their lunging movement and bite make them more than a harmless atmospheric effect. In-world bestiary accounts describe them as nature spirits; the wraith name therefore should not automatically turn them into the ghosts of dead humans or ordinary reanimated corpses.
Skyrim gives the animal-like hunt a social role through a recruitment test involving an ice wraith, while older Nordic traditions also describe such hunts as rites of passage. Teeth harvested from the creatures connect their danger with alchemy. This entry compares the named games and their cited lore while preserving the difference between a ritual's cultural significance and the creature's ordinary behavior. Reported diseases, damage values and variant attacks need game attribution rather than being treated as real physiology.
First appearances & development
Selected comparison: Skyrim (2011) and ESO (2014 onward). This entry follows the version represented by the primary works listed below, rather than treating the name as a single creature shared by every adaptation. Game lore and in-world narrators can conflict; gameplay abilities and playable body forms vary by title.
Canon & continuity
UESP's public MediaWiki API supplied the citation-bearing creature article; UESP is an independent reference, not an official publisher. Released games named in the bibliography are the canonical basis. In-game books, dialogue, mechanics and unofficial writings remain distinguishable within that reference. This task does not claim a complete replay or inspection of every later expansion.
