Overview

The official Databank describes gundarks as notorious predators from the Vanqor system. Their power is familiar enough that the name can occur in jokes and comparisons even when no animal is visible. A specialist description gives them four arms and keen hearing, useful distinctions from a generic large humanoid shape. Their aggression does not imply a speaking civilization or that every encounter is the same event. Anakin and Obi-Wan refer to an earlier nest mishap in Attack of the Clones and later confront the creatures during the Clone Wars.

Dooku Captured makes Vanqor’s caves part of a new pursuit problem: the Jedi must survive a confined natural hazard while trying to locate their enemy. The earlier conversation in the 2002 film cannot simply be dated to this later episode. The animal’s long-established reputation and subsequent visual treatment are therefore both retained. Legends accounts introduce additional forms and measurements, which are not silently transferred to the present canon entry. A mention can establish a name in the setting without establishing every anatomical detail that later stories provide.

First appearances & development

The name gundark occurs in The Empire Strikes Back in 1980, while later films and animation develop encounters and appearance. Dooku Captured aired in 2009. This record distinguishes a named offscreen reputation, an earlier reported nest incident and the later shown Vanqor encounter instead of claiming they share one debut event.

Canon & continuity

Lucasfilm’s Databank supplies the Vanqor association and repeated Jedi encounters. Specialist coverage supports anatomy and separates the relevant story references; the 2009 episode credit and date were independently checked. No exact comprehensive first visual appearance across comics or games is claimed, and older Legends variants are outside this compact baseline.
