Overview
A grick is a wormlike predator whose feeding end combines four tentacles and a beak. The reproduced revised third-edition SRD describes a dark body with a lighter underside. It waits near well-used passages, attacks approaching prey and ordinarily drags a kill to its lair for slower consumption because its jaws are relatively small. Multiple individuals do not coordinate: each chooses nearby prey and withdraws when it has food.
That older entry gives climbing and scent, with a magical-weapon distinction governing its damage reduction. Those rules explain a particular encounter procedure; apparent rubbery softness does not establish ordinary vulnerability. It is categorized there as an aberration.
The official 2014 block instead categorizes the ordinary grick as a monstrosity. Stone Camouflage aids concealment in rocky terrain, while resistance reduces nonmagical bludgeoning, piercing and slashing damage. Its attack sequence starts with tentacles and permits a beak attack against the same target only after a hit. The tentacle attack does not impose the Grappled condition in that legacy block.
The revised official profile returns to the aberration category and lists no older Stone Camouflage or physical resistance trait. Its multiattack includes both a beak and tentacle attack without the legacy hit prerequisite. Tentacles now grapple a Medium or smaller creature with all four appendages. Forest and Underdark remain listed habitats, but these labels do not supply an exhaustive migration or reproductive ecology.
Consequently camouflage, physical defenses and grasping procedures must be read from the intended version. The new grapple is not evidence that the legacy strike always restrained victims, and neither ordinary profile silently includes a larger grick alpha.
First appearances & development
The existing 2000 manual is retained as historical bibliography. The older behavior newly inspected is the v3.5 SRD reproduction; later comparisons use two distinct official fifth-edition profiles. A category or attack change is an edition change, not a claim that one fictional population evolved into another.
Canon & continuity
Complete older SRD and both official stat blocks were read. Hunting behavior belongs to the older reproduction, while resistance, conditional attacks and revised grappling are checked directly. No complete original manual reread, artwork viewing or reproduction of fan encounter advice is claimed.
