Overview
Weta Workshop’s film account presents Gloin as a fighter and financial backer of Thorin’s expedition. He and his brother Oin are Thorin’s cousins. Both remember Erebor before Smaug, making the quest a restoration of a prosperity they personally knew.
Gloin supports reclaiming the mountain for his son Gimli and later generations. His skill with weapons accompanies practical business judgment. He distrusts the Elves and Gandalf, and regards Elrond’s welcome at Rivendell cautiously, urging the company to leave quickly.
