Overview
Glavenus is a brute wyvern whose immense tail functions as a blade. Repeated use heats and sharpens it, while cooling produces a harder, rusting surface that the creature maintains with its fangs. The official guide suggests that material removed during sharpening is stored in its throat and used for flame breath. That explanation is presented as an observation-based account, not a complete analysis of its internal chemistry.
Generations introduces the species, and Now develops a later encounter around the relationship between heat, sharpness and vulnerability. A hot tail is more dangerous but also softer, allowing different opportunities to sever it. The account keeps the ordinary species distinct from Acidic Glavenus, whose coating and attack behavior differ. Equipment made from the monster's materials is part of the game economy; a blade-shaped organ does not establish that the creature literally manufactures a human sword.
First appearances & development
Introduced in Monster Hunter Generations (2015, Japan; 2016, English release). This entry follows the version represented by the primary works listed below, rather than treating the name as a single creature shared by every adaptation. Game Hunter's Notes and encounters are the baseline; subspecies, variants, spin-offs and numerical mechanics require title attribution.
Canon & continuity
The exact official Monster Hunter Now creature profile directly supports the selected ecology, visible anatomy and mobile encounter behavior. Monster Hunter X / Generations provides the other named primary game treatment. Now is an evolving game first released in 2023; this date does not assert that the species appeared at launch. Numerical balance and later variants are not fully surveyed.
