Gamling

Overview

Tolkien Gateway identifies Gamling the Old as the commander of Helm's Dike. During the Hornburg battle, he discovers Orcs entering through the culvert and leads a counterattack.

He understands the Dunlendings' language and survives the retreat into the caves. His possible service as Erkenbrand's lieutenant is qualified; the expanded film role is excluded.
