Fyrnock

Overview

Fyrnocks turn darkness into an environmental threat rather than merely an ominous backdrop. The official Databank describes yellow-eyed, sharp-toothed quadrupeds with long tails, multiplying in large numbers and attacking together. They cannot venture into sunlight, but the guide leaves open whether fear or physical sensitivity explains that limit. It would therefore be misleading to replace this uncertainty with a fixed diagnosis. Hera and Sabine encounter a colony at Fort Anaxes, where apparently abandoned infrastructure conceals living danger. Their escape belongs to the rebels' supply mission, not to an established practice of domesticating the animals.

Another encounter gives the creatures a different story function. When the Grand Inquisitor tracks Kanan and Ezra to Fort Anaxes, Ezra uses the Force to direct fyrnocks against him. The Inquisitor kills the attackers, but a much larger animal subsequently intervenes and helps the Jedi escape. Production trivia calls this larger creature Fyrnock Mama; that working label alone does not establish a detailed family tree for the colony. The Out of Darkness trivia gallery records earlier script names, garcor and nockfyr, before the final name was selected to sound related to mynock. This naming history describes a creative choice, rather than proving that the two fictional animals share biological ancestry.

First appearances & development

The selected screen witnesses are the 2014 Rebels episodes Out of Darkness and Gathering Forces. Their creature roles are documented by official guides and production trivia. This account concerns that canon presentation, without importing a separate Legends taxonomy or converting provisional script names into additional species.

Canon & continuity

The Databank establishes appearance, group attacks and sunlight avoidance; the Grand Inquisitor guide supplies the later Force-directed encounter. Official trivia preserves the script-name changes and larger creature's working designation. Episode publication year is corroborated by reference metadata; a complete new viewing of either episode is not claimed.
