Overview
A Frox's bulky body conceals considerable jumping power. In Tears of the Kingdom it can leap toward prey or draw objects into its mouth, making distance alone an uncertain defense. Its tusked, broadly frog-like appearance belongs to Hyrule's subterranean monster ecology, not to an identified real amphibian species. Travelers first confronting a silhouette in the darkness may discover its huge mouth before they can clearly identify the animal.
Its exposed eye and the Zonaite deposits on its back structure the encounter. An explosive swallowed through the open mouth can stun it, giving Link access to those deposits. Damage to them also damages the creature. Striking mineral growths is therefore part of this particular monster battle, rather than evidence that all stone deposits are alive. Gralens's Unknown Huge Silhouette quest gives the confrontation a story context through the monster-control crew's report of a threatening discovery below Hyrule.
First appearances & development
Frox is documented in Tears of the Kingdom in 2023. The profile is bounded to that game rather than treating later appearances or similarly named small creatures as independently established ancestral stages. Its debut date is a publication marker, not a claim about when the species first existed within Hyrule.
Canon & continuity
The inspected Zelda Wiki article reproduces the 2023 Compendium account, identifies the quest and describes the eye, mouth and back-deposit mechanics. This is a reference-mediated witness to one game. Only one distinct primary game is listed rather than inflating the bibliography by calling its Compendium a second independent work.
