Overview
The Cloaked Panther turns a ground sprint into a short aerial attack. A broad membrane extends between its forelegs and tail, opening after the muscular animal has gained enough speed. Keen senses and group hunting help it approach Arrow Deer herds, isolate vulnerable animals and pursue them. Groups can contain as many as five. The important distinction is between gliding and sustained powered flight: the official account describes a membrane-assisted movement following acceleration, not an animal that hovers or flies endlessly above the plains.
Na’vi use the strong membranes to make shelter canopies. The associated Zeswa story follows a warrior who stitches animal wings into a cloak and leaps from a cliff hoping to fly like an ikran. The publisher explicitly compares that warning to Icarus. It is an in-world cautionary tale and a published comparison, rather than proof that an actual wing cloak gives a wearer the animal’s capabilities. Predator behavior, useful material and cultural meaning coexist in this account. The profile does not split packs, harvested membranes or the tale’s ambitious warrior into extra creature species.
First appearances & development
This treatment follows the Frontiers of Pandora species listed in the official guide, with the released game dated 2023. Its panther name and Icarus comparison are qualified descriptions within that source. They do not establish an Earth feline ancestor or a documented historical origin for Pandora’s tale.
Canon & continuity
The full publisher species entry supplies membrane deployment, coordinated predation and cultural use. Its own distinction between animal movement and the warrior’s attempted imitation is retained. The bibliography identifies the game and companion entry without claiming a full newly replayed campaign or a separate creator-design interview.
