Overview
Majora's Mask introduces bottom-heavy, translucent Chuchus with visible contents. Some provide hearts, magic or arrows when destroyed; the blue form in Great Bay Temple can instead be frozen into a platform. The encounter makes a seemingly simple blob part of both resource supply and movement puzzles. The Wind Waker reshapes them into top-heavy hopping beings, some protected by electricity. Their jelly becomes material for Doc Bandam's potion research, giving the creatures a role beyond blocking Link's route.
Breath of the Wild uses ordinary and elemental forms. The element that defeats an ordinary Chuchu can change the jelly it leaves, while fire, ice and electrical Chuchus release dangerous elemental blasts. Their powers briefly subside after a discharge. This is not the same color system as the contents of Majora's Mask's blobs. The shared jelly body supports repeated variations in combat, crafting and environmental interaction, rather than one permanent meaning for a blue, yellow or red individual.
First appearances & development
Chuchu debuts in Majora's Mask in 2000, with the selected later accounts in The Wind Waker in 2002 and Breath of the Wild in 2017. ChuChu and Chu are release-dependent English forms of the name. Earlier Zelda slime enemies are not automatically treated as the same named type.
