Overview

Warcraft chimaeras are territorial, two-headed flying beasts associated with Ashenvale Forest. The original guide describes an empathic bond with the Night Elves, connecting dangerous animal defence with the faction's protection of Kalimdor. Their breath attacks make them formidable over a battlefield while retaining a specific setting and relationship outside the generic use of chimera for any mixed-bodied monster.

The classic game's researched corrosive attack against structures adds a distinct siege role, with limitations on other target types. Those rules should not be mistaken for an exhaustive biological explanation of breath or for current MMO combat balance. The profile treats the two-headed Warcraft creature as its own fictional type, rather than importing the lion, goat and snake composition of the ancient Greek Chimera into its anatomy.

First appearances & development

Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos (2002) depicts the chimaera of Ashenvale; the expansion retains the unit. This profile uses the classic strategy-game treatment and Blizzard's surviving unit guide. The named 2003 expansion is a second playable treatment of the same type, not evidence of a new species. Later MMO and Reforged systems can change presentation and mechanics.

Canon & continuity

Blizzard's exact chimaera unit page supplies the two-headed form, territoriality and empathic relationship. The description separates its creature account from balance numbers and player advice. No exhaustive later retcon survey, creator-inspiration claim or universal current-game mechanic is supplied.
