Overview

A brainsucker's grab drains the hunter's Insight, and killing it does not restore that resource. Cathedral Ward examples lack the magical attacks of hooded variants, which use paralyzing blasts or waves to expose a target. Losing the hood during the attack is an animation detail rather than a separate species transformation. Their church and research placements include Byrgenwerth and Upper Cathedral Ward, with boss encounters beneath the city in Hintertomb and Isz.

Their high physical defence contrasts with low health and vulnerability to thrusts, fire and lightning. The specialist identifies them mechanically as Kin through testing, explicitly distinguishing that result from the original official guide's omission. The category concerns game damage rules; it does not establish a cosmic family tree, a former human identity or a single experimental origin for the entire type.

First appearances & development

This enemy type is part of Bloodborne's released 2015 base game. Ordinary, hooded and dungeon-boss encounters remain in one profile because their shared form and Insight theft provide a clearer account than separately counting each statistical variant. Priority 2 concerns the monstrous enemy type; no independent humanoid civilization is established.

Canon & continuity

The dedicated specialist reference supplies placement, attack variants, stolen-resource behaviour and its explicitly tested Kin classification. Its reported guide discrepancy remains visible rather than silently harmonized. The publisher's complete-guide page confirms an appropriate bibliographic witness but does not expose a newly inspected brainsucker chapter or settle the classification disagreement.
