Overview
The Boneless are entities whose arrival challenges the usual distinction between a flat surface and a traversable physical space. People and objects become vulnerable in places where an ordinary solid wall would have offered protection. Their unfamiliar form also impedes interpretation: the Doctor initially faces the question of whether apparently destructive actions reflect misunderstanding or hostility.
The official episode feature identifies a victim seized by a giant hand and incorporated into the creatures, grounding the threat in more than an abstract visual effect. Clara must act while the Doctor and his shrunken TARDIS have limited access to the surrounding world. This profile concerns the dimensional beings of that story; their name does not indicate an ordinary animal that happens to lack a skeleton or supply a complete anatomy for life in another dimension.
First appearances & development
Flatline (2014) introduces the Boneless and their dimensional intrusion. The selected 2014 television treatment is the narrative baseline. In Case You Missed It: Flatline provides the later treatment named in the bibliography. Licensed audio and prose can develop their own emphases, which are not silently merged into these scenes.
Canon & continuity
BBC Studios' linked creature or episode material supports the depicted dimensional intrusion and danger to people. The bibliography identifies the actual writer and selected production. Claims made by characters and inferred histories are kept separate from events directly depicted; one official guide does not establish all versions of the organism.
