Overview
An austrapede is a tall flightless Pandoran animal associated with rivers and wetlands. Its reduced wings can flap when it is frightened, but do not make it another airborne predator. The official guide compares that condition with an emu's vestigial wings, using a familiar analogy to explain the unusual alien form. It is generally portrayed as posing little threat to surrounding creatures.
The guide also records occasional riding by Na'vi in wetland terrain, giving it a limited transport role without making it interchangeable with every direhorse or other mount. The specifically identified narrative presentation is Cirque du Soleil's Toruk – The First Flight, a licensed stage production launched in 2015. That appearance must not be rewritten as a verified scene in the original film simply because both share Pandora. The official creature page and the production are the two bibliographic treatments supplied here; no exhaustive first-publication year or invented complete reproductive history is asserted.
First appearances & development
The official creature guide identifies Toruk – The First Flight as a narrative presentation; Cirque's corporate history dates that production's launch to 2015. This does not establish the creature's earliest creation or every prior companion-guide appearance. The stage context is explicit, and no original-film scene is invented to provide a second primary work.
Canon & continuity
The inspected official creature page supports vestigial wings, riverside habitat and occasional riding, and explicitly lists the Cirque presentation. Corporate production history verifies its 2015 context. The old show URL redirects and was not used as fresh detailed stage evidence; the profile does not invent a full performance transcript or a matching original-film appearance.
