Overview
Alghouls are larger, stronger and more intelligent relatives of Ghouls, capable of giving a feeding pack a more organized threat. Wild Hunt's bestiary specifically distinguishes their capacity for forethought from the simpler behaviour of ordinary Ghouls. Their danger therefore is not just additional body mass: a group can attack travellers or settlements more effectively when it has a leader. An individual wounded Alghoul can also become fiercely aggressive.
The third game's defensive spines create a visible difference in how the creature is confronted, with Axii used to make them retract. That is an identified game behaviour, not a generic weakness of all intelligent monsters. The earlier and later games provide the comparison here; the profile keeps pack relations and anatomical distinctions together without making every statistical level or named contract target a separate species. Speculative name derivations are outside the selected evidence.
First appearances & development
The selected version is 2007 and 2015 game. CD Projekt RED's games adapt Sapkowski's setting while adding their own creature designs, quest histories and combat classifications. This profile identifies those game treatments, rather than asserting that every detail originates in the novels. Spellings and named variants remain within the same account unless a substantive independent comparison is required.
Canon & continuity
The Witcher Wiki is an independent reference, and its public MediaWiki API supplied the version-labeled bestiary text and relevant quest accounts. Publisher-hosted Prima guide excerpts provide additional context where listed. The bibliography identifies the actual game or reference chapter; it does not imply a complete audit of every novel, expansion, patch, screen adaptation or full guidebook.
