Overview

Yingshao inhabits Mount Zhili in the Shanhaijing. It resembles a magpie with red eyes, a red beak and a white body. Its tail resembles a spoon, and its cry repeats its name.

The Ji River flows from this mountain south into the Han River. The spoon-shaped tail is the unusual addition to the named bird’s otherwise recognizable form.
