Overview

Xianfu fish inhabits the Liu River, which rises from Mount Yang and flows south into the He River in the Shanhaijing. The account compares its form to a crucian-type fish, then specifies a fish head and a pig’s body. Eating it is said to relieve vomiting. The mountain notice also contains the oxlike Linghu and the multicolored bird Xiangshe, each with its own description.

A fish head on a pig body makes this a conspicuous hybrid despite the opening comparison to a crucian-like fish. The attributed benefit concerns vomiting, while other fish in the collection are assigned different bodily effects.
