Overview
Wuluo governs Mount Qingyao in the Shanhaijing. The spirit has a human face, leopard markings, a narrow waist and white teeth. Ornaments are worn through the ears, and the voice is compared to ringing jade.
Qingyao is called the emperor’s secluded capital and overlooks a place associated with the transformation of Yu’s father. Wuluo’s jeweled voice and ear ornaments accompany a specifically stated governing role, not merely a chance animal appearance.
