Overview

XI's treants usually remain rooted, using soil nutrients and photosynthesis. Atelloune's Wildlife Files explains that pollination initiates a mobile stage: roots serve as limbs, feeding organs become active, and the parent hunts to provision offspring. Facial nodes develop into saplings, which detach and travel on stored nourishment before settling. Many do not survive. The parent subsequently roots again, becoming difficult to distinguish from ordinary trees. Movement and carnivory are consequently reproductive stages rather than a permanent condition. Atelloune relays this account through the fictional Professor Clavauert, and explicitly dismisses loggers' stories of screaming felled trees as exaggerations.

Specialist encounter records add the player-facing side. Treants inhabit woodland regions, with rooted ancestry reflected in resources such as wood, roots and leaves. Pinecone Bomb combines a projectile with sleep, Leafstorm damages surrounding enemies, and Entangle binds its target. Other disabling moves complicate a battle against an apparently slow plant. Saplings remain young members of the family in this profile, while regional forms such as Leshy and Greenman retain their encounter identities. Seasonal-looking foliage differences do not create separate entries. Square Enix's 2004 concept-art witness documents treants under its plantoid heading, alongside other mobile plants such as funguars and mandragora. The artwork's collection date is independent of the naturalist column's undated real publication.

First appearances & development

This is Final Fantasy XI's family, with artwork documented in World Concept in 2004 and a later publisher naturalist account. The column's year 755 is fictional chronology, not its publication date. Other games and traditional living-tree stories are not assigned XI's reproductive mechanism.

Canon & continuity

The complete publisher column supplies the attributed life cycle and credits Mitsuhiro Arita for illustration. The official gallery identifies the 2004 collection. Specialist records supply combat effects and resources. These witnesses separate an ecological story from encounter mechanics and do not establish real botanical science.
