Overview
Taling’s mother eats half an apple supplied by a dervish; a sheep consumes the rest. Her child has one arm and one leg, unlike his six paternal half-brothers. This anatomical detail is explicit in the Bakhtiari narrative, unlike the less specific Kermani Nim Tanak version.
He defeats the beard-bearing div who imprisoned his brothers and frees its captives. When the rescued brothers plot to kill him in a pit, he hides in a treasure chest they haul out. He later exposes their betrayal at home. Bodily difference does not prevent him becoming the successful rescuer.
