Overview

Stalfos are skeletal enemies associated with dungeons, tombs and other dangerous spaces in Zelda. Many carry swords and sometimes shields, turning a recognizable image of the dead into an armed opponent. Their presentation ranges from common wandering skeletons in the original game to capable duelists or substantial dungeon encounters in later three-dimensional titles.

Neither their size nor their method of destruction is uniform. Certain appearances involve reassembling bones or require a special finishing action, while others are defeated with ordinary attacks. Similar names such as Stalchild, Stalkoblin and Stalmoblin should not be silently collapsed into Stalfos: they represent separate designs and game contexts. The recurring skeletal motif provides continuity, but a claim about who these dead once were needs evidence from the particular story rather than assumptions based on their anatomy.
