Overview

A remorhaz combines an arctic environment with dangerous bodily heat. The reproduced revised third-edition SRD describes a pale blue body with a reddish glow, waiting beneath snow and ice to attack movement above it. Its cold-desert habitat and burrowing ambush establish an older hunting picture, without requiring a real metabolic explanation for the heat.

That version distinguishes unarmed or natural contact from attacks with manufactured melee weapons. The former expose an attacker to heat damage, while a striking weapon risks melting or charring. Swallowed prey suffers crushing and fire damage and can cut out through the gizzard; muscular closure means another captive must open its own escape route.

The 2014 official profile supplies cold and fire immunity, darkvision and tremorsense. Touching the body or landing a nearby melee attack causes fire damage. A bite grapples and restrains its target, preventing bites against another target while that hold persists. Swallow then requires a successful bite against a held Medium or smaller victim, who suffers internal acid damage and gains protection from outside effects.

The revised block replaces contact-triggered Heated Body with a Heat Aura that damages nearby creatures at the end of its turns. Swallow becomes a bonus action with a Strength saving throw, accepts Large or smaller captives and expressly limits the creature to two swallowed victims. Internal damage now combines acid and fire. Both fifth-edition profiles allow sufficient internal injury to force regurgitation, but their exit placement differs.

Thus proximity, weapon contact and confinement have different consequences across these witnesses. The adult comparison does not silently supply young remorhaz statistics, and an arctic monster's immunity does not establish measured temperature, fuel consumption or real-world evolutionary ancestry.

First appearances & development

The existing 2000 manual is retained as historical bibliography. Newly read older hunting and heat procedures come from the revised third-edition SRD reproduction; the legacy and revised fifth-edition adult blocks are separate primary publication witnesses. No exhaustive debut history or original third-edition manual reread is claimed.

Canon & continuity

The complete older SRD reproduction and official legacy body were read, with the complete revised official indexed block. Weapon damage, contact heat and aura distinctions are directly scoped. Adult swallowing procedures are compared rather than pooled. No original manual reread, artwork, video or homebrew variants were used.
