Overview
Show and Tell explains their invisibility through a fictional out-of-phase relationship rather than through ordinary camouflage. They can observe and affect aspects of the human environment, but specialized equipment is needed to reveal them directly. Goa'uld symbiotes react painfully to their presence, giving another potential clue that an unseen being is nearby. Their insectlike form and concealment do not prevent sophisticated technology or biological engineering.
The species' Central Authority opposes rebels who plan to eliminate possible Goa'uld hosts, including humans, as a strategy of attrition. A Reetou called Mother creates a human intermediary to warn Stargate Command, placing protective cooperation and genocidal retaliation within the same species' political divisions. This makes the unseen visitor more than a generic infiltration monster. The episode's wave-phase explanation is a storytelling device, and its figures should not be presented as a workable account of real quantum invisibility.
First appearances & development
Jonathan Glassner's Show and Tell, broadcast in 1999, provides the substantive Reetou encounter. Later mentions do not by themselves add another observed society or creature form. The entry concerns the species and its political division rather than treating Mother, her intermediary and the rebels as separate biological types.
Canon & continuity
The inspected Richard Dean Anderson lexicon describes invisibility, the opposing factions, the warning intermediary and transphase detection. GateWorld's episode record verifies the production credit. The single substantive primary episode limits claims about general customs, population and future history; the species is classified as a sapient people despite its insectoid body.
