Overview

Heavensward introduces Ravana as an original Final Fantasy XIV primal, rather than a returning summon from an older numbered game. The Gnath revere him as their savior and master of the Chandrahas blades. His insectoid body has an armored dark exoskeleton, curved antennae, luminous wings and four sword-bearing arms. The martial silhouette expresses the kind of power his followers seek: a conqueror who values strength and welcomes a worthy opponent.

The official Thok ast Thok narrative connects his summoning to the hive-minded Gnath’s desire to expand without fearing dragons. Adventurers confront him because of their promise to Vidofnir, making the battle part of the route toward Hraesvelgr. The reference account develops the contest with Ysayle: her Shiva manifestation loses, while the Warrior of Light wins the duel. Ravana then honors the agreed result and restrains the Gnath’s campaign. His willingness to accept defeat distinguishes his warrior code from the destruction sought by his summoners.

The Extreme encounter develops combat through changing avatars, rising Bloodlust and Gana that must be defeated before they become swords. These are encounter rules, not an insect reproductive cycle or a fixed measure of the primal’s anatomical development. Hard and Extreme remain distinct challenges, and this profile does not import their exact damage thresholds into every later manifestation.

The developers explicitly named Aura Battler Dunbine when discussing the new insect primal’s design. This is production testimony, not shared fictional ancestry.

First appearances & development

Ravana debuted in Final Fantasy XIV: Heavensward in 2015. The developers identify him as a newly created primal paired with the returning Bismarck to balance original and legacy content. This profile concentrates on the launch story and its trial adaptations; later summoned manifestations are not extra species entries.

Canon & continuity

The official launch spotlight and Thok ast Thok duty description establish the followers, weapons and territorial conflict. The Heavensward interview supplies design history. Character and Extreme-trial references support the scoped duel and combat comparison; these accounts are not presented as independently viewed cutscenes or a current strategy guarantee.

Aura Battler Dunbine’s insectoid robots

Naoki Yoshida explicitly recalls Dunbine when discussing an insect primal; Kazutoyo Maehiro confirms the immediate decision. This is design testimony, not fictional genealogy.
