Qilin (Harry Potter)

Overview

Official franchise material describes the qilin as a creature combining horse and dragon features, with a deer-like build and scales of a golden-bronze hue.

Its defining power is perceiving the character of anyone it meets. It bows before a person whose heart is pure, a trait that gives it a role in choosing the Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards.

A franchise feature on the film distinguishes adult and young qilin while stating that both share this perceptive ability. Diet, lifespan and ecology are not covered by the selected references.

First appearances & development

Fictional creature from the Harry Potter franchise. The part-horse, part-dragon description is the official account and does not supply parent species or a genealogical origin. Author inspiration is not established; a shared name with folklore does not demonstrate it.
