Overview

Qiezhi inhabits Mount Ju in the Shanhaijing’s ninth central itinerary. It resembles an owl with a red body and white head. It can ward off fire.

The mountain’s waters contain unusual snakes and fish, and its land supports named cattle and other animals. Qiezhi’s red body and white head distinguish the protective bird within that mixed account of local inhabitants.
