Overview

A Pyrovore processes material for a Tyranid hive fleet, turning feeding and digestion into both logistical work and battlefield danger. Its many digestive structures contain harsh chemicals, and its mouth breaks down difficult material rather than merely taking ordinary bites. A separate dorsal organism projects incendiary discharge at surrounding enemies. Its principal ecological role within the swarm is therefore broader than serving as a biological flamethrower.

The older fifth-edition account, identified in the creature reference, describes the weapon symbiote as having its own relatively capable brain while the host remains dominated by feeding. Wounds or death can release the creature's dangerous internal contents. The publisher's 2023 account preserves the predigestion role and emphasizes flammable emissions in the redesigned creature. This explains a useful contrast with the Biovore: the two may share the visual category of living artillery, but their weaponry and contribution to the hive fleet differ. Their common miniature kit does not make them synonyms or interchangeable fictional animals.

First appearances & development

The reference identifies the Pyrovore in the fifth-edition Tyranid codex and a 2010 miniature, followed by the official 2023 treatment. That documented publication context is supplied without claiming an exhaustive first-development history. Its digestive purpose and weapon symbiote distinguish it from the Biovore, despite the later miniature kit supporting both builds.

Canon & continuity

The secondary reference identifies the fifth-edition anatomical account, including the distinct weapon brain and corrosive internal material. The actually inspected 2023 publisher preview confirms predigestion and flammable secretions in the newer treatment. This profile combines those documented functions but does not claim direct full-codex inspection, a new biological species or fixed damage values.
