Overview

A Biovore grows and launches living spore mines, supplying a Tyranid force with biological artillery. Muscular contractions propel the munitions from a dorsal weapon, and the mines can drift toward nearby prey before bursting. Their hazards include corrosive substances, toxic emissions and physical fragments rather than an ordinary metal shell produced in a workshop. The organism therefore combines a carrying body with a weapon that is itself alive.

The 2023 redesign makes that partnership particularly clear through a broad body and limbs able to brace the firing platform. Mark's studio account contrasts an older Orkish appearance with Alex's paired-organism design, making the launcher visibly symbiotic. This is direct development evidence, while older suggestions of assimilated Ork genetic material remain part of the fictional account and its uncertainty. The Biovore's indirect-fire role distinguishes it from the Pyrovore's digestion and chemical flame attacks, even though the 2023 models share a kit.

First appearances & development

Biovores have earlier codex and miniature treatments as well as the documented 2023 redesign. This profile compares their spore-launching role and separates the current kit's visual treatment from older lore. Tentative genetic explanations in a fictional history should not be confused with the artist's choices or treated as verified genetic donor claims.

Canon & continuity

The official 2023 preview explains living mines, muscular launching and stabilizing limbs. Production testimony is identified separately in the description. The linked secondary reference supplies earlier codex context and qualifies the Ork-gene suggestion; the comparison keeps visual development distinct from in-universe genetic explanations.
