Overview

The Tribe links Ponca with other Dhegiha peoples through language and remembered relationships. Its migration narratives are oral traditions, without independently established dates.

The Tribe describes cultivation alongside spring and fall buffalo hunts, fishing and gathering. These practices connect established villages with seasonal travel.

The National Park Service documents removal and Standing Bear’s detention challenge. The Tribe records its federal restoration in 1990.
