Overview
Plesioth is a large Piscine Wyvern with fishlike scales, folding fins, webbed feet and a broad tail. It spends much of its time around water, where swimming and ambush behavior complement forceful jets from its mouth. On land, its long body and heavy movements provide a different threat from the smaller aquatic inhabitants around it.
The original Monster Hunter and Freedom 2 supply early encounters, while later titles change the extent to which hunters can confront it underwater. This difference is significant: an edition without underwater hunting and one with it do not provide identical movement or positioning rules. Green Plesioth is a named subspecies outside the baseline here. Capcom explicitly identifies shark inspiration in a development feature, but that brief statement does not establish a detailed real-world ancestry or prove every fin derives from one named shark.
First appearances & development
Monster Hunter (2004). This entry follows the version represented by the primary works listed below, rather than treating the name as a single creature shared by every adaptation. Game Hunter's Notes and encounters are the baseline; subspecies, variants, spin-offs and numerical mechanics require title attribution.
Canon & continuity
The bibliography identifies Monster Hunter as a primary basis and Monster Hunter Freedom 2 as a second useful treatment. The linked secondary reference supports identification and contextual claims; it does not substitute for consulting the named edition, episode or game. Game Hunter's Notes and encounters are the baseline; subspecies, variants, spin-offs and numerical mechanics require title attribution.

Sharks
Capcom’s shark-design feature also explicitly identifies Plesioth as another monster inspired by real sharks. That statement supports an animal-group design input, although it does not name a particular shark species or enumerate all borrowed features. The connection therefore stays broad and does not assign Plesioth a real zoological classification or speculative ancestry.
