Overview
Cristian Henrique Sena da Silva’s 2019 study contrasts a Guaipuan Vieira cordel with Recife Assombrado’s account. The latter describes dark, greasy hair along thigh, knee and shin, a coarse foot and long nails; it attacks with a trip and repeated kicks. Vieira’s A perna cabeluda: prenúncio da besta-fera gives the limb a more elaborate body, including an eye at the knee, a horn on the shin and a heel spur. These are separately attributed portrayals, rather than one fixed anatomy.
Cinema adds another setting for the legend. FUNCEB’s 2025 programme describes Ayla de Oliveira’s 2018 short Entre Pernas as following a woman who reports an attack by the figure at a police station. The programme presents the film’s confrontation with an elusive assailant, not a documented police case. Perna Cabeluda also appears in the municipality’s 2022 haunted-city tour list, where the figure shares a public storytelling route with other Recife apparitions.
Origins & earliest records
The inspected 2019 study establishes a published cordel and website comparison, rather than resolving competing claims about the legend’s first invention. Vieira’s poem’s original publication date remains unverified. The 2018 film date is supplied by FUNCEB’s later official programme; the 2022 tour documents heritage reception without establishing an oral beginning.
Records & interpretation
Silva’s title pages confirm 2019, and pp. 42–44 preserve the contrasting physical descriptions and attacks. The poem and Recife Assombrado article are quoted witnesses, not independently read originals here. FUNCEB’s indexed programme supplies the film synopsis, while direct retrieval returned 403; no unviewed film ending is added.
