Overview

In Felipe Araujo’s account of Freyre’s Recife collection, a sick householder seeks a cure from an older healer. The proposed remedy is a child’s liver, and the healer goes through the city capturing children in a sack. The wealthy patient and the collector of victims therefore occupy different roles. The 2014 Vegini, Vegini and Ferreira Netto synthesis, citing Cascudo, instead emphasizes a tall, thin, ragged older figure who threatens children near schools, parks and gardens, sometimes carrying a sack himself.

Igor Fernandes’s 2023 short film reworks Papa-Figo as a quiet, attractive young man who draws Amanda’s attention. Sorriso’s municipal synopsis describes his transformation with predatory claws and vampire-like teeth and ears; sweets lure children playing late outside. This is specifically a recent horror adaptation. Its young seducer and transformed body are not silently added to the older sack-carrying portrayal, and the claimed cure remains part of the tale rather than medical information.

Origins & earliest records

The inspected witnesses transmit older folklore through Freyre’s collection and Cascudo’s comparative work, without independently establishing the first oral telling. Araujo’s dissertation dates to 2023 and the comparative synthesis to 2014. Sorriso’s 24 April 2023 report separately confirms Fernandes’s film launch, giving a firm date for that authored adaptation.

Records & interpretation

Araujo p. 111, the 2014 synthesis p. 72 and Sorriso’s two April announcements support the differing roles and bodies. The original Freyre and Cascudo editions remain indirect here. The film itself was not watched; its character and transformation are credited to the official synopsis, without adding an invented ending.
