Overview
The official glossary describes a black, scorpionlike creature with sharp pincers and places its natural range in the Crystal Desert. Its use within the castle changes the context from wildlife to deliberately staged suffering. During the prequel's second episode, the Skeksis employ the beetle against skekTek, whose missing eye is later replaced mechanically. A creature's feeding or grasping behavior has thus been incorporated into a court's disciplinary practice.
The episode links the animal with the surrounding hierarchy of fear and humiliation, but does not make it a judge or a willing political ally. The word beetle in its name should not override the guide's scorpionlike visual description or justify assigning a precise Earth arthropod family. The creature's presence in a punishment scene likewise does not establish that eye consumption is its entire natural diet or that every individual has been trained for the same ritual.
First appearances & development
The inspected screen event is Age of Resistance's second episode, released with the 2019 series. The official glossary distinguishes the animal from the ceremony named after it. This profile records the reviewed treatment and does not invent an earlier film appearance, detailed reproductive history or a second species for the ritual form.
Canon & continuity
The official P glossary supplies the desert location, dark exterior, pincers and episode-two attack, then identifies skekTek's mechanical replacement in episode three. The primary series and primary official guide are listed separately. A complete reading of the licensed bestiary's beetle entry was not performed, so it is not used to expand the anatomy.
