Overview
The metal slime resembles the ordinary blue slime in outline, but its silver surface signals a very different encounter. It is usually difficult to damage, quick to escape and unusually rewarding to defeat. The combination turns a small creature into a coveted interruption of routine exploration: the challenge is securing a hit before the opportunity disappears.
These traits are a recurring game design rather than a universal numerical formula. Particular titles change its health, resistance rules and the attacks that reliably affect it. Metallic appearance should not imply real-world metallurgical biology, which the games do not establish consistently. Liquid metal slimes and crowned metallic relatives extend the family, while training and synthesis systems can place metal slimes in the player's party instead of making them only prizes to pursue.
First appearances & development
Dragon Quest (1986), Japanese original release. This entry follows the version represented by the primary works listed below, rather than treating the name as a single creature shared by every adaptation. Names, recruitment, spell lists and combat parameters differ between localizations, remakes and spin-offs; this profile describes the recurring design, not one universal stat block.
Canon & continuity
Primary basis: Dragon Quest / Dragon Warrior (1986); comparison: Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age (2017). The linked reference guide collates released-game appearances and descriptions. Original games, remakes and localized spell names must be checked separately when exact mechanics matter. This entry summarizes recurring design and selected narrative examples without reproducing game text or claiming exhaustive bibliography.
