Overview

Marduk's rebellious priests seal him inside a sarcophagus with a flesh-eating creature, turning restorative technology into an instrument of prolonged punishment. The predator is confined with his repeatedly revived body rather than introduced as an ordinary inhabitant of a surveyed ecosystem. When a Russian expedition opens the enclosure, the creature escapes into the surrounding ziggurat and attacks people exploring its dark passages.

The creature's most consequential property is its ability to serve as a Goa'uld host. Marduk's symbiote enters it to escape destruction and later seeks a human body, making the apparent animal threat part of a continuing conscious strategy. A venomous bite adds to the danger for the trapped rescue team. The story gives no translated name, population account or dependable species lineage; calling it Marduk's tomb creature identifies the encounter without pretending that Marduk created the animal or that its imprisonment was its natural life cycle.

First appearances & development

The Tomb, a 2001 episode written by Joseph Mallozzi and Paul Mullie, supplies this creature's bounded screen story. Its connection with Babylonian names belongs to Stargate's fictional appropriation of history. The series does not establish that this animal is the Tiamat of ancient narratives or a zoological counterpart to that figure.

Canon & continuity

The cast-site Marduk entry explains the sarcophagus punishment and symbiote transfer, while the episode record supplies the venom attack and missing Russian expedition. This profile distinguishes the predator's observed actions from those directed by its possessor. No full natural-history account or second independent primary creature treatment was identified.
