Overview
A Lictor advances ahead of a Tyranid invasion as a scout, infiltrator and opportunistic killer. Chameleonic skin conceals it against surrounding terrain, and it can wait rather than charge every enemy it sees. Its large hooked limbs and feeder tendrils combine close-range violence with an information-gathering function: after a kill, brain material supplies knowledge that can benefit the Hive Mind. This makes it a different instrument from an ordinary massed assault creature. The prey's isolation and the timing of the strike matter as much as brute force. Its unnerving implication is that a missing soldier may reveal defensive information to an attacker whose main swarm has not yet arrived.
The 2023 publisher preview distinguishes the familiar Lictor from related developments, including the psychic Neurolictor and the unusually elaborate Deathleaper. Those relatives illustrate changes within the infiltrator concept without making every Lictor automatically possess all their special powers. Filip's studio account identifies returning waist-mounted claws, a six-limb core and a modular kit with different poses. Those are modeling decisions that help communicate the creature's fictional adaptation; they are not a literal witnessed evolutionary record. The profile consequently separates common infiltration traits, particular related forms and edition-specific tabletop rules, while preserving the family resemblance across its documented treatments.
First appearances & development
Lictors belong to the Warhammer 40,000 Tyranid range across multiple editions. The 2023 preview and studio interview document a specific updated treatment and its relationship to earlier models. Neurolictor and Deathleaper comparisons are scoped within that infiltrator family. The entry does not infer an earliest release date or universal powers from the newest kit.
Canon & continuity
The inspected publisher preview describes chameleonic hunting and knowledge acquired from consumed brains; the creature reference adds scouting context. Production testimony is separately identified in the description. These sources distinguish the common infiltrator from specialized related forms, rather than assigning Neurolictor powers or edition-specific tabletop rules to every Lictor.
