Overview

A Genestealer is a fast, clawed Tyranid organism that can serve both an invasion's vanguard and a hidden infestation inside another society. Its immediate threat is close-range violence, but its longer-term danger comes from establishing altered host lineages and a cult organized around the brood. The resulting hybrid population is not identical to the original purestrain animal, and a Magus, ordinary cultist and Genestealer should not be treated as interchangeable names.

The official faction guide distinguishes purestrain attackers, Broodlords, Patriarchs and several hybrid roles. A Patriarch develops from the creature at the centre of a growing cult, while a Broodlord is presented as a powerful leader of attacking Genestealers. Keeping those functions clear avoids counting every organizational title as another unrelated species. The studio interview identifies a rushing pose and revised back armour connecting the 2023 model visually with other Tyranids. That redesign is production history; it does not erase earlier depictions or prove that every host's descendants follow an identical individual story.

First appearances & development

Genestealers have a long publication history and several related hybrid and leader forms. This entry follows the checked official faction guide and 2023 design discussion rather than declaring every past edition identical. The purestrain organism, hybrid descendants and cult organization are separated, and no independently verified earliest-publication year is supplied in this selective account.

Canon & continuity

The inspected faction page distinguishes purestrain creatures, Broodlords, Patriarchs and hybrid roles. Lexicanum indexes the reproduction account; direct studio testimony addresses the physical model separately. The combined treatment explains invasion and infiltration without making the animal, a transformed host lineage and an organized cult interchangeable categories.
