Overview

A killing machine introduces overt machinery into Dragon Quest's largely organic monster roster. Its blue armored body stands on four legs beneath a single red eye, and its usual weapons combine a sword with a crossbow arm. The design presents a compact mobile weapons platform rather than a knight concealed inside a suit of armor.

Repeated physical attacks are central to many of its encounters, with later games adding capabilities such as an eye-fired beam. These additions should be dated to their treatments rather than projected backward onto the original Dragon Quest II machine. Some titles make electrical attacks especially useful against it, while others use different resistance systems. Monster-recruitment games can also place this construct in an allied party, showing that a mechanical enemy type need not remain permanently hostile.

First appearances & development

Dragon Quest II (1987), Japanese original release. This entry follows the version represented by the primary works listed below, rather than treating the name as a single creature shared by every adaptation. Names, recruitment, spell lists and combat parameters differ between localizations, remakes and spin-offs; this profile describes the recurring design, not one universal stat block.

The linked reference guide collates released-game appearances and descriptions. Original games, remakes and localized spell names must be checked separately when exact mechanics matter. This entry summarizes recurring design and selected narrative examples without reproducing game text or claiming exhaustive bibliography.
