Overview
Kagouti are large bipedal reptiles distinguished by tusks and a prominent head crest. They share a broad family resemblance with guar and alit while presenting a more heavily armed outline. Morrowind encounters establish them as dangerous wildlife; later game dialogue and in-world studies add accounts of groups, courtship and protective adults. Those reports should not be flattened into a claim that the creature is always solitary or always hunts in a coordinated pack.
The varied observations show why a creature encountered once is an incomplete ecological sample. An animal defending young or reacting during mating season can behave differently from an isolated traveler-facing opponent. This entry compares the two named games without treating every in-world scholar as infallible or translating game diseases into real medical facts. The ordinary kagouti remains distinct from a guar mount, and later rideable versions do not establish that the original Morrowind player had a kagouti-riding system.
First appearances & development
Selected comparison: Morrowind (2002) and ESO (2014 onward). This entry follows the version represented by the primary works listed below, rather than treating the name as a single creature shared by every adaptation. Game lore and in-world narrators can conflict; gameplay abilities and playable body forms vary by title.
Canon & continuity
UESP's public MediaWiki API supplied the citation-bearing creature article; UESP is an independent reference, not an official publisher. Released games named in the bibliography are the canonical basis. In-game books, dialogue, mechanics and unofficial writings remain distinguishable within that reference. This task does not claim a complete replay or inspection of every later expansion.
