Overview
Kaadu are wingless two-legged avians native to Naboo, used as mounts by Gungans. Their speed and agility suit cavalry movement, while Lucasfilm's reference also emphasizes hearing and smell. The Phantom Menace places them within the Gungan army, giving the creatures a role in communication, command and the movement of riders across the battlefield.
The close relationship with their riders is a documented aspect of domestication, not proof that every kaadu is owned or that all individuals are equally trained. Later Clone Wars appearances supply additional contexts without replacing the original film's depiction. Their bird classification should be retained despite features that may resemble reptiles or other real animals. The profile describes the fictional avian, sensory traits and selected use, while leaving an exhaustive breeding history and detailed domestication chronology outside the available evidence.
First appearances & development
Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999). Selected released screen works and Lucasfilm's official creature reference establish this profile. Film edition changes, separate individuals and the boundary between current canon and Legends are retained where relevant. The entry does not claim an exhaustive earliest-publication audit across novelizations, merchandise, games and reference books.
Canon & continuity
Lucasfilm's exact Databank entry supplies the creature's identification, selected physical or behavioral traits and screen appearance list. The named film or series provides the narrative example. Short catalogue descriptions do not support a complete invented biology. Episode-specific details, film edition changes and additional Legends material require their own evidence; no extended official text or artwork is reproduced.
