The library’s source mark remains visible.

Overview

The eastern Hua fish lives in the Zitong River, which flows from Mount Zitong into the Yuru Marsh in the Shanhaijing. Its body is fishlike and it bears the wings of a bird. Light accompanies its movement in and out, and its voice resembles a mandarin duck. Its appearance heralds great drought. The record combines an aquatic setting with wings and a visible luminous effect.

The combination of bird wings, light and a mandarin-duck-like voice distinguishes this eastern river inhabitant. The written name䱻魚 is retained alongside its geography to separate it from similarly pronounced fish in other itineraries.
