Overview

Hammerhead titanotheres are enormous six-legged herbivores that live in small, socially ranked groups. Their distinctive projecting head structures can be used during contests between dominant males, while armour protects the back and shoulders. The official field guide explains that the hammerhead begins as cartilage and becomes hard as the animal matures. Its four eyes do not supply exceptional eyesight; smell and hearing are more important warning systems.

When threatened, the creature raises a coloured crest and lowers its head for a devastating charge. The first film uses that display to show how dangerous unfamiliar wildlife can be even before a more fearsome predator arrives. A herbivorous diet consequently does not imply harmlessness, and a defensive charge does not make it a deliberate villain. The profile combines the film encounter with the official biological entry while distinguishing social competition, threat display and predation. Earth-elephant comparisons communicate scale without establishing evolutionary ancestry.

First appearances & development

The 2009 film and official Pandorapedia entry supply this hammerhead titanothere treatment. The animal's head structure, armoured body and herd behaviour are distinct from real titanotheres and elephants. Its presence in a later attraction is a separate presentation, while game variants and exhaustive earliest-release chronology are not merged into this selective film account.

Canon & continuity

The inspected official field-guide page documents cartilage hardening, male contests, sensory limitations and a defensive crest-and-charge display. The original film is the named primary dramatic presentation. Together they support a powerful herbivore rather than a moral villain; publisher scale comparisons are fictional descriptions, and no independently measured terrestrial biomechanics are inferred.
